When I am home I love to go to the different parts of Town and just look around. One place I like to visit is Bayview Road and look over to Cormack Drive. I have been thinking about how I can create such an effect on this website and how I can photograph a large enough area to show the whole area. While I think I may have found away. A new story has been added by local author Bonnie Jarvis-Lowe ‘The Newfoundland Food Fishery Vs the Perils of the Sea’ to the Story Section of the Website. This is a piece about the situation re the fishery here. The boats people are using are in deplorable shape. They are about 40% of the total fishing fleet. This is well worth the read and something to consider before going out on the water again.

I have just created two new pages for the site that deals with our Community minded Groups that work very hard to build a great community. One page in located in our "Present Section" of the site that will provided a listing of Community Groups. The other page is located in our "History Section" that will provide the local history of these groups on how they first got setup in Clarenville & Shoal Hr. I have just added a new section to the History area of this site, it is about the "First Communications Construction Squadron in Newfoundland 1952 to 1954". They were in Newfoundland as they did construction and maintenance for communications for all of Northeast Air Command which included Greenland, Newfoundland and Labrador. In the summer of 1953 they were stationed at Shoal Harbour gravel pit. I have been communicating with a Mr. Merritt B. Scharnweber who operates the website "First Communications Construction Squadron" who has provided my with the photos and information to put this together. I have learned a lot over the last few days while working on this project. I hope you enjoy the section as much as I did putting it together. I would like to thank Mr.  Scharnweber for all of his help with the project.

Also a photo of "Group of Local Boys" during a ball game taken in early summer in Clarenville 1953 has been added as well. I would like to thank Mr. Merritt B. I would like to thank both Geneva Cholock and her son Chick Cholock for giving me permission to post two photos of the All Grade School in Clarenville from about 1935. In October of 1978 their were several UFO Sighting in the Clarenville area, on a couple of occasions they were viewed by multiple witnesses each time. I have update the Page/Story "Our 1978 Visitors" with some new information and photo that was submitted to me by Cst. Jim Blackwood, who was with the RCMP Detachment in Clarenville at the time.

Over the last week and still on going I have been having problems with the company who I pay to Host this website. While surfing the Internet looking for information on the History of Clarenville I came across a website operated by Mr. Ted Gleichmann, of Florham Park, New Jersey. Mr. Gleichmann's father Theodore F. Gleichmann, Sr. spent time in Clarenville working on the first transatlantic submarine telephone cable on several occasions between 1955 and 1959. During his stay he took several Photos of the Old Railway Station & well he reported on the Trans Atlantic Cable Break on Saturday February 21, 1959. I hope you enjoy the information & Photos as much as I do.

Did you know I have a whole section on this site that deals with Statistics for Clarenville & Shoal Harbour that go back to 1800?, I had it so well hidden in the History Section that most visitors missed it all together, so I have give "Statistics" its very own section on the menu. I have made some further changes to the look of the Website including replacing the menu. I also plan on updating the Clarenville Links Page in the near future.
