April 14th. was a 'red letter' day for the plant staff members of Imperial Oil Clarenville, when the Company held a dinner for them and their wives at Cabot Lodge Restaurant.
The special occasion marked an accident free year of .1964 for the Clarenville Company and the staff were presented with a safety award in the form of a wall plaque by Mr. J.D. Cook, Field Operations Supervisor for Eastern Newfoundland.
Special guests at the dinner were Cp1. R. Noel of the Clarenville RCMP and Mrs. Noel, Mr. David MacLeod (Sales Representative) and Mrs. MacLeod and Mr. Gerry Hawley, Field Supervisor.
Mr. Cook, who presided over the gathering, congratulated the staff on their achievement and stated that, with" their fine record of safety consciousness on the job, there was no reason why this type of presentation could not become an annual event in Clarenville. He outlined briefly Imperial Oil's safety program over the past years and stressed that an accident free year experienced by any one plant depended on every member of the staff being Safety-conscious all the time, on and off the job.
Mr. R.K. Wheaton plant superintendant, in accepting the award on behalf of the staff, stated that every effort would be made to complete the present year and all years in future without a, lost time accident, so that the staff could receive the coveted award each year.
Mr. Aaron Tilley, Route Salesman, and Mr. Eric Smith Plantman, also received safe driving awards totalling 150,000 and 100,000 miles respectively. Mr. Tilley also received a ten year service button, having completed ton years of continuous service with Imperial Oil Ltd. on April 1st. of this year.
