Clarenville Area Sports

Clarenville is a sports and recreation wonderland. The town held the 1994 Newfoundland Winter Games and in 1997 the National Under 17 Men's Softball Tournament. Clarenville offers many recreational activities including: a complete health club with indoor pool, a public skating arena, three softball diamonds and a recreation complex with three regulation size volleyball courts. Nearby, for those who enjoy the outdoors, you will find two golf courses, several hiking trails, vast snowmobiling country and many more nature activities.

Twin Rivers Golf Course

Located in Terra Nova National Park, Twin Rivers Golf Course is approximately 25 minutes from Clarenville. In 1983 the golf course originally opened with nine holes and nine additional holes were constructed in 1991. Currently there are another nine holes being constructed to make a total of 27 holes. The site of the golf course was selected for its beautiful terrain and nature. There are two white water salmon rivers that flow through the center of the course to the Atlantic Ocean. The wildlife around the course is spectacular. Moose, Bald Eagles and Atlantic Salmon all thrive in this park environment. The beautiful surroundings and course setup make Twin Rivers one of the best golf courses in Atlantic Canada. Twin Rivers is a par 71 golf course.

Brookside Golf Course

Hole 7, Par 3 Located in Hatchet Cove, the Brookside Golf Course is a 15 minute drive from Clarenville. The course was recently constructed and has 9 holes with another 9 holes to be constructed soon. The view from the fourth hole allows you to see picturesque Trinity Bay.

Clarenville Stadium

The Clarenville Stadium was originally a livestock arena used for housing and selling livestock. In 1956, the owners realized the potential of the building as a hockey arena and bought ice making equipment from Bay Roberts, Newfoundland. They then converted the Clarenville Livestock Arena to the Clarenville Hockey Arena, also known as the Clarenville Stadium. All of the minor hockey teams, senior men's teams, curling teams and figure skating teams from Clarenville and surrounding area use the Clarenville Stadium to play and practice.

Outdoor Recreation

Clarenville is located near many excellent hunting grounds for Caribou and Moose. Outfitting companies, such as Thorburn Lake Aviation, act as guides for hunting trips, canoeing expeditions, white water rafting and hiking. The Clarenville area also has boat touring companies which offer whale watching tours and shore line tours of old outport communities. One boat tour company, Island Rendezvous, takes its customers to Woody Island, Placentia Bay for a weekend adventure.

Snowmobiling

The Clarenville area offers many beautiful snowmobiling trails. A primary trail for many riders is the former Newfoundland Railway Track. For the more adventurous snowmobiler, a day trip to the wilderness area, located beyond Black River, and Middle Ridge proves to be very exciting.
